The Mancomunidad de Municipios del Camino Francés brings together the eleven Galician towns through which the most important and emblematic of all the Jacobean routes to the Cathedral of Santiago passes. The French Way holds unparalleled historical and cultural significance. Since the Middle Ages, and still today, it has been the most traveled route leading to Compostela.
The Camino's entry into Galicia marks the final stage of a route that crosses the Iberian Peninsula, playing a vital role not only due to its heritage value but also its social, cultural, and economic impact. The Mancomunidad works in coordination with all its member municipalities to preserve this legacy, manage its sustainable development, and promote its international recognition, ensuring proper attention to pilgrims and the protection of the natural and cultural environment that characterizes this unique route.
Over the centuries, this path has forged a unique identity. The Mancomunidad
develops common policies among its members focused on improving infrastructure, enhancing cultural heritage, and promoting sustainable tourism initiatives. In doing so, it ensures the preservation of a route that is, at the same time, a spiritual, cultural, and social experience of global significance, with a direct impact on the economic fabric and well-being of local communities.
The inter-municipal coordination also seeks to reinforce the importance of this itinerary within Galicia, both regionally and internationally, promoting its status as a universal symbol of cultural exchange and coexistence among peoples.
